It is hard to believe that the world’s most popular social networking site began as a simple and affordable way for students at Harvard College to communicate. Now, six years later, Facebook has an incredible 350 million active users. More incredible still is the fact that over half of these members log into Facebook each and every day.
One statistic that Smartphone makers have kept a close eye on is the number of users that access the site from their mobile devices. According to the Facebook website, they believe that number to be over 65 million members.
It is no surprise then why Facebook applications (apps) are some of the hottest on the internet or why Smartphone makers are cranking them out almost as fast as people are downloading them. This is especially true of facebook video apps, which are fairly new and extremely popular with users.
These apps give Facebook members the ability to post videos from their mobile devices directly to their member page and then send them to anyone they wish. Due to the popularity of the site, members have access to thousands of free apps that can be used on the Facebook platform. In fact, the company itself estimates that there are currently a half a million apps that are compatible with Facebook.
Though that seems like an outlandish number, we must remember that these apps are used by more than sixtyfive million mobile owners, most of whom prefer accessing the site from their phones. As Facebook continues its incredible success, it is safe to assume that the number of applications that are used on the site will grow.
