Smartphone makers often boast about how many different applications they offer. We know that Apple has 150,000 apps, the Android phone offers 30,000 and the Blackberry has a bit less. Now, those are impressive numbers. But let us be honest here; most of these apps are not worth the time it takes to download them. This is particularly true when we consider apps that were designed for younger users. Perhaps that is why all of the top apps are useless and distracting games.
But in this article we want to discuss a new group of apps that are actually useful and were designed for kids. They are called apps for education or educational apps, and they have become quite popular.
What can they do? An education app can be used for everything from test review to language studies. There are even apps that help students take and organise their notes. The best part about these programs is that many of them can be downloaded for free.
What are our favourites? We like the free reference apps that help kids complete their homework and learn new facts and figures. For example, there is a dictionary app, a Spanish tutor app, and a maths app that provides a list of common formulas. All of them are helpful and all of them are free.
As you might expect, since Apple has the largest app catalogue, they also offer the widest selection of free educational apps. But even if you own a different Smartphone, it is likely that you will be able to find a few educational apps for free.
