Released in April of 2010, the Apple iPad recently surpassed the two million mark. In its first month, it became the fastest product in company history to sell one million units — in just 28 days! That's less than half the time it took the iPod to sell seven figures.
If you somehow missed it, the iPad is a tablet computer that was designed as a multimedia device. Specifically, it has been marketed as a faster, cheaper and more convenient way to enjoy movies, games, music and to surf the internet. So far, it appears the public agrees.
One obvious reason the iPad has achieved such astonishing success is that Apple has an expansive catalogue of tablet applications that are compatible with the iPad. In fact, only about five thousand of the company's one-hundred thousand plus applications will not run on the device.
On the day the iPad was launched, new users downloaded an incredible 250,000 applications from the App Store. To date, they have downloaded three million applications. The numbers are only expected to increase as the company introduces apps that were designed specifically for the iPad.
In addition to traditional apps, the iPad has also been a big hit with lovers of electronic books. These users can download the latest book titles on the internet and enjoy them at their leisure.
